Detection of a young stellar population in the background of open clusters in the Third Galactic Quadrant

چکیده
We report the detection of a young stellar population (≤100 Myrs) in the background of 9 young open clusters belonging to a homogenoeous sample of 30 star clusters in the Third Galactic Quadrant (at 217 ≤ l ≤ 260). Deep and accurate UBVRI photometry allows us to measure model-independent age and distance for the clusters and the background population with high confidence. The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملThe Moon behind the finger . Detection of the Canis Major galaxy in the background of galactic open clusters
The Moon behind the finger. Detection of the Canis Major galaxy in the background of galactic open clusters. ABSTRACT We report on the detection of Main Sequence and evolved stars belonging to the newly discovered Canis Major galaxy in the background of the open clusters NGC 2477, Tombaugh 1 and Berkeley 33. From the Color Magnitude Diagram of the galaxy as it appear in the background of NGC 24...
متن کاملPhotometry of the five marginally studied open clusters Collinder 74 , Berkeley 27 , Haffner 8 , NGC 2509 and VdB - Hagen 4
Context. The stellar populations in the outer Galactic disk are nowadays a subject of wide interest. To contribute to a better picture of this part of the Galaxy, we have studied the nature of five marginally investigated star clusters (Collinder 74, Berkeley 27, Haffner 8, NGC 2509, and VdB-Hagen4) by means of accurate CCD photometry in the V and I pass-bands. These clusters are in fact locate...
متن کاملStellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups
It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...
متن کاملBlue Straggler Stars in Galactic Open Clusters and the effect of field star contamination
Context. We investigate the distribution of Blue Straggler stars in the field of three open star clusters. Aims. The main purpose is to highlight the crucial role played by general Galactic disk fore-/background field stars, which are often located in the same region of the Color Magnitude Diagram as Blue Straggler stars. Methods. We analyze photometry taken from the literature of 3 open cluste...
